DESCRIPTION:Do you want to be involved in power-challenging\, community-based journalism? \nThe Leveller is a left-leaning newspaper covering campus issues\, the city of Ottawa\, and the wider world. Our aim is to provide news and analysis in support of people everywhere who are fighting oppression. We are a democratic organization\, and we side with people over profit. \nEvery month we hold online Story Meetings where you can pitch article ideas\, help brainstorm content\, or be assigned a story. They’re also a way to learn about the Leveller and introduce yourself. \nAll published contributions are paid when following our Honorarium Policy and Submission Guidelines. Read more on our website.

September 7\, 7pm – 8:30pm\nOctopus Books\, 116 Third Ave.\, Ottawa \nA critical perspective on anti-black racism in the education system from the people we need to hear from most on this matter-Black students.” -Jael Richardson \n#BlackInSchool is Habiba Cooper Diallo’s high school journal\, in which she documents\, processes\, and resists the systemic racism\, microaggressions\, stereotypes\, and outright racism she experienced in Canada’s education system. \nPowerful and eye-opening\, Cooper Diallo illustrates how our schools reinforce rather than erode racism: the handcuffing and frisking of students of colour by police at school; one-dimensional\, tokenistic curricula portraying Black people; and the constant barrage of overt racism from students and staff alike.
