Art is a Weapon: Revolutionary and Antifascist Posters from Spain 1936-39 presents reproductions of 25 striking that teach us the history of revolutionary Spain and the Spanish Civil War. But these posters are more than just artefacts of the past. DESCRIPTION:Queer Death Salon is a community space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ people to come together to discuss death\, dying and grief. It is a facilitated drop-in discussion space\, with the purpose of building connection\, skill\, and resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ people navigating end of life in our personal lives and in our communities \nWith your pet depicted at the center\, participants are asked to draw the universe of webs showing the experiences\, support and feelings your pet brought into your lives. We will then move to the present moment\, imagining what we can access today to continue their memory. What new webs can be built? How can you continue to honor their life? How would they want you to live? Attendees will then break into smaller groups to share their grief and imaginings together. \nThis workshop is in memory of Tobie’s soul dog\, Peach (Petey) \nTobie (they/them/iel) is a white settler located in Tio’tia:ke (Montreal). They are a disabled coach\, facilitator\, weaver\, builder\, caregiver and disruptor with mutual aid\, animals\, the outdoors and art at the center of their life. DESCRIPTION:Powerful and profound work continues to be done on how to respond interpersonal harm within social justice groups after it happens. But are there things we can do to create an environment within our organizations that limits the likelihood of harm occurring in the first place? All Ottawa-area organizers and activists are invited to a discussion facilitated by the Punch Up Collective exploring this idea. \nThis event is for anyone interested in building social justice groups that are less hospitable to interpersonal harm and more generative of trust\, intentionality\, and effectiveness. We will present our recent Briarpatch article “Planning to Be Good to Each Other” and facilitate a discussion about infrastructures and practices that might help prevent harm. \nContent Warning: This event will involve a facilitated discussion about preventing harm withing social justice groups. Drawing on principles of radical mental health and community care\, participants will learn practical strategies for recognizing bids for care\, assessing personal capacity to respond\, and cultivating a culture of mutual support. \noumou is a Senegalese-Guinean\, multi-hyphenate polycreative – therapist(ish)\, coach\, disruptor\, zinester\, writer\, speaker\, consultant and facilitator of spaces for radical learning. oumou is a two-time graduate of Syracuse University and a former adjunct professor at the same school. she is the creator of RMHFA\, a workshop that is slowly but surely changing the care and mental health landscape.

DESCRIPTION:On May 1st\, 1911\, the Socialist Party of Canada organized Ottawa’s first public celebration of Mayday with a rally and speakers in Major’s Hill Park. \nTo commemorate the 125th anniversary of that event\, the Ottawa branch of the Tempest Collective – an American/Canadian socialist group – is offering a free historical walking tour\, starting from Major’s Hill Park. Join us to learn about seven of the most dramatic protests and strikes in Ottawa’s history\, moments when the struggle intensified into serious rebellions. \nLed by Brian McDougall\, from Peoples’ History Walking Tours\, the tour will visit the sites of those seven episodes of mass struggle. Each of those moments surpassed the limitations of ‘normal’ strikes and protests to reveal the possibility of system change. In doing so\, they raised political questions that remain critical today.\n• How can we overcome the racial divisions in the working class?\n• How much capacity do the unorganized have to strike?\n• How do you build a general strike?\n• How does the ruling class co-opt protest movements?\n• What can rank and file workers do to overcome the conservatism of their union leaders?\n• How can single issue movements and campaigns attract support from other groups? \nThe tour will last about three hours\, and will end with a visit to a nearby pub. This reading group continues SftP’s tradition of running a reading group alongside our local organising\, and the goal of this series is to better link our collective education with collective action\, bringing together members to deepen our shared understanding of science\, power\, and liberation. \nDeveloped and maintained by the Science for the People\n– New Haven Chapter\, this curriculum investigates how Marxism\, science\, and capitalism intersect – and how these forces shape both knowledge and the material conditions of our world. Through discussion and reflection\, we’ll consider what it means to reclaim science as a tool for social transformation.

If so\, come be part of the revival of the Ottawa chapter of Food Not Bombs! \nWondering what that is? Food Not Bombs is the name shared by independent collectives around the world that gather donated produce and ingredients\, cook delicious plant-based meals\, and distribute them for free in public spaces. Ottawa had one such collective\, but it ceased operation in 2021. Now you have a chance to be part of a new iteration! \nWe’d love to have you join the inaugural meeting taking place online on April 26\, 2026\, at 15:00.
