Storytelling is an ancient form of magic\, with the power to connect the past with the present\, teach lessons\, impart values\, heal\, to explain the world and connect us to the universe through language and mythology. The stories\, films\, and music in this program\, come from Indigenous peoples from the circumpolar north — such as the the Inuit of Canada and Greenland\, or the Sami of northern Scandinavia — peoples that have thrived in the Arctic regions of the world for thousands of years\, enduring the changing seasons of dark and light\, of colonialism\, and of climate change. Although these cultures live thousands of kilometres away from each other\, they share a common history of resilience in their language\, culture and magic through storytelling.\nMIIGWECHWe would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario for their support. This event takes place on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation\, and is being held in partnership with the City of Ottawa\, Lansdowne Park\, Winterlude\, Beandigen Cafe\, Tungasuvvingat Inuit\, DARC\, Gallery 101\, and the NFB. A big thank you to our funders and partners.

SUMMARY:Queer Death Salon - Medical Assistance in Dying
DESCRIPTION:We will be joined by two guest speakers from Dying with Dignity Canada who will lead us through the choices that come up around accessing medical assistance in dying. In Canada (and likely elsewhere)\, there are important concerns tied to the way MAiD is made available while other life-saving supports are not. Although the presentation will not focus on these aspects\, the presentation will be followed by discussion where we can ask questions and share experiences about MAiD and how it relates to our lives. Expect engaging discussions and a supportive community to share your thoughts and experiences. \nThis session is for people curious about MAiD\, who are considering it for themselves\, or with loved ones who have accessed or applied for MAiD.

SUMMARY:From Palestine to the Philippines: Free all political prisoners!
DESCRIPTION:From Palestine to the Philippines\, political repression includes the unjust and arbitrary imprisonment of people who struggle for self-determination and liberation. For over 50 years\, the Zionist entity has imprisoned thousands of Palestinians as part of an imperialist-backed project of ethnic cleansing. Philippine state terror imprisons workers\, peasants\, indigenous peoples\, journalists\, and peace consultants who seek justice\, land reform\, and higher wages – violating their human rights and international humanitarian law. \nJoin us for an educational and letter writing event at uOttawa from 6pm to 8pm to demonstrate solidarity with these heroic political prisoners in their time of need.\n \nRegister here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd-TyXKCqNWsY23gPxhbd3iPWpq4NiB-orpVxCAdmY_t3u3dA/viewform

SUMMARY:Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture: Indigenous Acts of Resistance – A Vital Conversation with Katsi’tsakwas Ellen Gabriel
DESCRIPTION:The history of Indigenous resistance is one of memory\, justice\, and the ongoing struggle for the recognition of rights. Through an insightful and inspiring dialogue\, Ellen Gabriel and Audra Simpson will offer a critical perspective on past and present struggles\, as well as the challenges ahead. \nThe event will also be available online for remote participation on Zoom
