DESCRIPTION:Join us for the launch of a double volume\, two books in one\, both by trans Ottawa-based writers! \nAbout the book: \nImogen Reid’s Accept Yourself Or Die: From Mormon Missionary to Trans Punk travels from small-town Northern Ontario\, to the Missionary Training Centre in Provo\, Utah\, to basement shows in Ottawa. It’s a story about staying stubbornly human in a world that wants to destroy you\, and also about how weird it is going door-to-door trying to convert people to Mormonism. \nCrossdresser: Growing Up Trans in the 1990s and 2000s\, by Kat Rogue\, explores what it does to a closeted trans girl to grow up saturated in the transmisogyny of 1990s pop culture and to come of age online\, and how she managed to build her own relationship to femininity despite that. It argues that crossdressing\, femme\, and transness are more closely linked than some people think\, and that Ace Ventura: Pet Detective really could have been great without all the transmisogyny. \nThe books are published by Sheer Spite Press back-to-back for a double gut-punch of heartfelt\, angry\, and funny reflections on transfemme coming of age. \nCopies of the book will be for sale\, but the event is free to attend. \nMasks are required and will be provided if you need one! \nThe front door has a portable ramp (29″ wide). Once inside\, the warehouse is a single level with concrete floors. The washroom door is 30.5″ wide\, There is a support rail next to the toilet\, and a wall-hung sink with space under it.

There is no cause for celebration. Nor has there been for years\, as Indigenous leaders have highlighted Canada’s active and ongoing role in genocide against Indigenous peoples.CAPE 4 Palestine recognizes that as public servants\, we have a distinct responsibility to hold our employer\, the Government of Canada\, to account and to understand how settler colonialism operates across borders. We will be travelling at a very slow pace. Whether your child is a pro on two wheels or just starting out\, this event is perfect for riders of all ages\, abilities\, and skill levels.\nSchedule\n9:30 AM\nMeet at Alta Vista Park: decorate bikes\, dance\, chalk\, and bubbles\n10:05 AM\nBike Ride Begins! We will ride in a loop through the community ending at the Alta Vista Farmer’s Market (2345 Alta Vista Drive).\n11:00 AM\nPost-ride gathering. Kidical Mass expands on that idea with a focus on children and families. These events celebrate the joy of biking asking cities to make streets safe for kids and therefore safe for everyone. We believe children should be able to safely and independently travel to school\, parks\, sports\, and other destinations. With climate change already impacting the lives of children\, safe streets for kids also means seriously addressing the climate emergency. There are measures – both big and small – that cities like Ottawa can pursue to make this possible.\nWhat makes streets safer for kids?– A true Vision Zero strategy that focuses on proactive design action to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries. SUMMARY:Toronto Living With AIDS Book Launch & Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join author Ryan Conrad and HIV/AIDS activist Darien Taylor for the launch of Conrad’s new anthology titled Toronto Living With AIDS. This publication investigates an extraordinary moment in the histories of both activist media and AIDS activism: the creation of a community-driven video series about HIV/AIDS for public-access cable television in Toronto at the beginning of the 1990s. The event will feature a short screening of early Canadian HIV/AIDS activist video\, a short presentation\, and a dialogue between Conrad and Taylor who is interviewed in the book and who also contributed a video to the the TLWA series on women and HIV/AIDS. \nThis event is sponsored by DARC\, Qu’ART\, PUBLIC Books\, Archive/Counter-Archive and the Feminist Institute of Social Transformation @ Carleton University.

DESCRIPTION:Come work on zines with us as we work on the next issue of The Dragon Flyer\, the Ottawa Trans Library’s community zine. Write\, draw\, scan\, cut\, and paste with us on our community zine or your own project\, or just come hang out with us. We are collecting stories\, jokes\, poems\, art\, and more from the trans and non-binary community in Ottawa and our friends and families. \nThe zine workshop is a collaborative event to discuss\, share\, and work on zines together. \nCome tell your story.We will provide paper\, templates\, and whatever art supplies we have. No experience necessary. All ages welcome\, children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. \nMasking and testing the day of the event is encouraged. Accessibility note: There are two stairs at the door entrance. We have a ramp we can bring out for the door on request. There’s a washroom but it’s not large enough for many mobility devices.
