Information for the people

September 26 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Free

When institutions like government departments, municipalities, and universities make decisions, the public in whose name those decisions are made are often left in the dark about *why* and *how* they were made. Researchers, journalists, and activists who want to shed light on the operations of public institutions have to rely on federal and provincial legislation allowing them to request access to documents.

In this workshop, hosted by Science for the People Ottawa and Carleton PIRG, participants will learn how the access to information / freedom of information systems in different Canadian jurisdictions work (or don’t!) and will be guided through the process of submitting their own requests for documents.

Bring a laptop, ideas for documents you’re interested in requesting from public institutions, and a credit card (for application fees, usually $5 per request) if you’d like to put what you learn right into practice!

🗓️ Friday, 26 September, 5:00 pm
📍Loeb A220, Carleton University
