Social Production of Science Reading Group: Biotechnology

June 22 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Free

In this month’s module of the Social Production of Science reading group, we will look at the Biotechnology Industry. The discussion will take place on Monday, June 22nd at 8 pm EDT on zoom.

We will be discussing two readings, including our first piece of fiction!
• Chapter 2 of Living Factories by Kenneth Fish
• Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

Register at the link in our bio to get access to the readings and sign up for updates! We will send out emails with the discussion questions and zoom links.

All members, new and old, are invited to join this online reading group exploring The Social Production of Science curriculum. This reading group continues SftP’s tradition of running a reading group alongside our local organising, and the goal of this series is to better link our collective education with collective action, bringing together members to deepen our shared understanding of science, power, and liberation.

Developed and maintained by the Science for the People
– New Haven Chapter (also thanks to @sftpnhv for the graphic!) , this curriculum investigates how Marxism, science, and capitalism intersect – and how these forces shape both knowledge and the material conditions of our world. Through discussion and reflection, we’ll consider what it means to reclaim science as a tool for social transformation.
